Internet content filtering

A school required internet access for a computer room used by students, but it was necessary to provide a complete content filtering system, to prevent access to any unsuitable material on the web. We set up a server computer running Linux which holds regularly updated lists containing millions of urls which contain unsuitable content. Every request for internet access is compared against this list and only those which are accepted are allowed through. The system is flexible enough to add specific sites to the lists - so students there are not able to spend time looking at ebay!
